Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

The teachers in Y1 are Miss Sparrow, Miss Knebel and Mrs Wainwright. The teaching assistants are Mrs Davison, Miss Loczki and Miss Hawley. 

We all hope that you enjoy your time in Year 1. 

English 

We will be looking at lots of different books linked to our themes, including storybooks, poetry books and information books to find out about many different things e.g. Whatever Next, Beegu, Polar Bear Polar Bear, The Flower, Stick Man,The Royal Dinner, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel.

Maths

We learn how to count to 100 and back in ones, twos, fives and tens.We learn to add and subtract, multiply and divide and find halves and quarters.We learn to measure and weigh, recognise coins and notes and tell the time to the hour and half hour. We also learn the names of 2D and 3D shapes. But we really like solving number problems!

 Our new themes are very exciting to learn about. We will be learning and applying lots of new skills throughout the school year to prepare you for Year 2.

Computing

Once a week we will go to the I.C.T. suite.  We will draw pictures, learn how to enter text, record sounds, create a powerpoint and use the internet.

RE

In R.E we will learn about some of the different religions in the world and how to be kind and caring towards each other.

Educational Visits

During Y1 we hope to make several visits out of school. In the past we have taken the children to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Conisborough Castle, Wood Lane Centre, Sheffield cathedral and for walks around the local area.
